The Amigos for Children Foundation is a nonprofit community of university student volunteers committed to bringing joy and encouragement to children living with serious illnesses. By combining language learning, creative play, and the warmth of friendship, we aim to ease the challenges of long hospital stays while also offering support to families. Each week, Amigo volunteers bring laughter, learning, and hope to children in 21 hospital units across six cities, helping them through recovery.
Klau’s story:
When I was 13, I traveled with a few classmates for three weeks to a small village in Turkey to play with, learn from, and speak English with children living in poverty and with disabilities. It was a formative experience for me to see how much of an impact we could have in such a short time on children who are almost completely cut off from the world.
Since then, I have been continuously looking for child protection organizations because I wanted to help as a volunteer—even if only one child—so they could connect with the world and have access to education and care, regardless of their circumstances. The Amigos for Children Foundation became especially close to my heart in this regard. Although I can no longer volunteer for Amigos, as I am not a university student, I want to support the team so that they can give as many children as possible the chance not to be alone and not to fall behind their peers.
Tomi’s story:
I am familiar with and have supported many child protection organizations, but what particularly impressed me about Amigos is that the education of children is given such a high priority. I also find it exemplary that the organizations do not compete with one another, but work together and support each other to make life easier for children and their families who spend months in hospitals with an uncertain future.
I was especially moved by what Dr. Loránd Erőss, a neurosurgery professor at Semmelweis University, said: “The Amigos Foundation brings joy into an environment where uncertainty clouds the everyday lives of our young patients and their families. Joy, smiles, and experiences return to the children’s lives, helping them forget their serious, even life-threatening challenges.”
This is why I support Amigos—I believe that learning, smiles, and hope are the most important gifts we can give to these children.
Your support not only celebrates love on this special day, but also brings hope and happiness to children who need it most.

Thank you for helping us make our dream come true: that one day, every child facing illness will have an Amigo by their side!💚
